(AUSTIN) - Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Gabriel Webb, a chemistry major at Texas State University, as student regent for the 2022-23 term. Mr. Webb is one of eight student regents appointed to the governing boards of Texas’ public university systems and independent universities.
Webb succeeds recent Texas State University graduate Camile Settegast, whose one-year term on the board expired May 31. Student regents have the same rights and privileges as regularly appointed board members, except the right to vote or be counted toward a quorum for official board business.
The Texas State University System, founded in 1911, is Texas’ first university system. TSUS member institutions currently serve more than 87,000 students on 13 campuses from far West Texas to the Gulf Coast. Member institutions include Lamar University, Sam Houston State University, Sul Ross State University, Texas State University, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College Orange, and Lamar State College Port Arthur.
